The Learning Environment
The Infant Toddler Community
The Infant Toddler Community caters for infants aged 0-3, and provides a spacious environment where they have the freedom to move, explore and develop at their own pace. Each child is carefully observed and progress is carefully recorded.
Development areas in the Infant Toddler Community include:
Motor Development
The environment plays a part in the motor development. It is important to ensure there is enough space for the children to move freely. Children are assisted with sitting, standing, walking, running, kicking a ball and manipulating objects.
Cognitive Development
Children are encouraged to establish perceptions of objects and how they operate. They are encouraged to interact with the environment through the use of words and images, allowing them to understand the differences in perception and belief.
Sensory Development
Infants and Toddlers are introduced to sensory materials and through exploration within the physical environment begin to develop their ten senses; baric, chromic, tactile, visual, auditory, thermic, stereognostic, gustatory, olfactory , and muscular.
Language development
The Montessori environment is full of oral language opportunities for the child to explore. Materials are based on images allowing them to name them and understand the differences in perception.
Social Development
Social interact ion is encouraged through group singing, group snack and circle time sessions.
Practical Life
This is an introduction to everyday life skills such as gaining independence, confidence, control of movements, care of self and others and the environment.
